I was trained at the University of Naples Federico II (Italy), where I completed my PhD and at the Pasteur Institute in Paris. After a brief postdoctoral fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, I joined the Imagine Institute in 2015 focusing on monogenic intestinal disorders. I was appointed INSERM researcher in 2020 and obtained my HDR in 2021. The primary goal of my research is to understand the factors that make a healthy gut. Using diverse experimental approaches including animal models of gut inflammation, and intestinal organoid-based approaches, our goal is to define the cellular and molecular mechanisms that preserve intestinal homeostasis and to understand how their disruption leads to pathology. We focus on very early-onset intestinal disorders that manifest in infancy or early childhood. In close collaboration with Dr. Fabienne Charbit-Henrion (Necker Hospital, Paris), we leverage these rare monogenic diseases as powerful entry points to uncover fundamental principles of intestinal immunity and epithelial biology.
